All relationships take hard work and cooperation, but long-distance relationships require a little bit more. Many people believe that long-distance relationships will never last. However, if you put the effort in, it will be long-lasting and successful.

The first thing you must remember is that just because you are physically distant, you do not have to be emotionally distant. You should speak at least once daily over the phone or through a live video chat. Hearing your partners voice and seeing their face will help remind you why you’re in the relationship. Also, sending emails and texts, even just to say hi, will keep you feeling that much closer.

Plan to visit each other every few weeks if possible. The time that you are physically together should also be spent enjoying each others company and not being upset about being apart soon.

Be sure that you include your partner in your daily life. Whether you tell them about your day, send pictures, emails, texts or ask their opinion on things, this will bring you closer. Do not make it seem like you life without them is more pleasant and fulfilling.

Finally, the most important thing to do in a long-distance relationship is to remind your partner that you love and miss them dearly.

Moving to a new home can be a very stressful event to a child. While exciting, moving to a new place means a world of change, ranging from getting to know a new dwelling to having to attend a brand-new school and make new friends. However, there are ways to mitigate to the stress that it may cause and better help your child to adjust to your new home.

First, help them get settled in their new living space. Make sure that your child feels comfortable and at ease in their new room. Having them feel like their new room is just that, theirs, they will better adjust to the idea of a new home, new community, and new life.

Next, make the most out of technology. Understandably, a child will miss of their old friends. Thanks to the internet, moving to a new town does not mean that a child has to lose touch with all of their old friends. Those friendships are all just a email, instant message, or text away.

Finally, encourage your child to make new friends in your new town. This can be done is wide manner of ways. Perhaps there are other children in the neighborhood that you have moved to. Help your child establish relationships with them. Another way is to get your child involved with activities in your new town. Perhaps they can join a sports team or get involved with a local youth group.

Moving can be stressful. Lost documents, muscle strain, damaged belongings, and the chaos of living out of boxes can have you at the end of your endurance and patience. Here are some tips to make the transition with far less stress.

Carry the absolute essentials yourself. Housewares can be replaced, but losing your birth certificate, vaccination records, marriage license, vehicle title, or medication prescription is a nightmare. As soon as you know you’ll be moving, gather your essential paperwork into a folder. Hand-carry these documents with you to your new home. It will weigh only a few ounces, but will lift a load of worry from your shoulders.

Budget for conveniences during and right after the move. For the first few nights in your new house, you may find yourself surrounded by boxes and unmotivated to cook. You may have to go to the laundromat if your appliances aren’t hooked up right away. Budget for these incidentals ahead of time to avoid money woes.

Schedule ample time for unpacking and getting settled. Many people underestimate how long it will take to unpack, find their way around, and generally get settled in their new digs. Finding the best coffee and donuts in the neighborhood cannot be left to chance!

By following these simple tips, your move will be far less stressful and more enjoyable.

The American Moving & Storage Association is one organization that helps individuals recognize professional movers. The Better Business Bureau is another, and has the added benefit of accrediting businesses across the range of industries. We know that moving is a hassle, and you’ll be looking for any time-saving tips you can find? However, since you’ll already be online setting up utilities (such as purchasing internet service at www.satellitestarinternet.com), why not browse the BBB’s database at www.bbb.org while you’re at it?Companies have to specifically seek out BBB accreditation, but are not obligated to do so. Successful accreditation means the business has made a commitment to follow eight basic standards:

Build Trust

Advertise Honestly

Tell the Truth

Be Transparent

Honor Promises

Be Responsive

Safeguard Privacy

Embody Integrity

Companies must pay for the accreditation review, so there’s an added incentive for the company to adhere to each standard the first time around. While it’s not necessary for a company to apply for accreditation, there are a number of moving companies that have done so. With everything that could go wrong in the moving process, why take your chances on a company that has yet to get its paperwork in order? There could be more pressing reasons why they have not applied for accreditation. The Better Business Bureau operates over 100 regional centers, each of which place a priority on warning their community members about scams in the area. Even if a company has not applied for accreditation, the BBB probably still has a report on it. If you are a regular donator to charities, you might also be interested in the BBB’s Wise Giving Alliance, which accredits national charities according to 20 Standards for Charity Accountability. The organization’s roots date back to early-20th century court cases led by the government against a number of corporate firms. One such firms was the Coca-Cola Company, which was involved in the 1916 case United States v. Forty Barrels and Twenty Kegs of Coca-Cola. In the case, the government accused the company of misbranding its products. Samuel Candler Dobbs, Coca-Cola’s sales manager and later its president, began a “truth-in-advertising” campaign which led to the creation of a number of BBB-precursors. These included Dobbs’s own Associated Advertising Clubs of America (1909), the National Better Business Commission (1921), and the National Association of Better Business Bureaus (1933). In 1946, these organizations and others were merged into the Association of Better Business Bureaus, Inc.

There are any number of reasons why you would need to take advantage of a public storage unit. Maybe you want to move some belongings ahead of time and need somewhere to place them in the interim before moving in to your new house. Maybe you just need a place to stash some belongings during the summer for school. Or maybe you’re moving into a smaller location and simply don’t have the space for everything you need. Whatever the reason, public storage units are trustworthy and affordable ways to make your moving easier.Public Storage (the company) is one of biggest self-storage companies in America, and operates 2,100 company-owned locations across the U.S. and Europe. With prices starting at 10 a month (and 1 for the first month), Public Storage offers an affordable way to temporarily replace or supplement your existing space. All payments are on a month-to-month basis, which means you don’t have to deal with pesky long-term contracts, and you can make sure your friends and loved ones have access as well. When considering what to store in your unit, consider which items you’ll need to get at most often. When moving, you may wish to leave some items in longer just to make the process easier, so put these in the back of the unit. It’s also important that you use all of the storage space available, which means stacking items on top of each other. However, don’t overcrowd the unit, or you’ll create a musty, poorly-ventilated area.Self-storage has something to offer for everybody, even if they’re not looking to move in the near future. If you know that you’ll need storage space soon, don’t hesitate to callat Public Storage, you can reserve a unit up to a month in advance.

It’s a sad fact of life: not all moving companies are created equal. Consider the horror story of the man who hired a company to move his belongings from North Carolina to San Diego and set up his things there, only to find them passed out on his couch when he got thereand with the wrong furniture, to boot. This is obviously an extreme case, but if you want to avoid these moving nightmares, there are a few things you can do to make the search for a mover go smoothly.First, make sure you start early. One-to-two months in advance is usually a safe bet, giving you the biggest chance that the company you want will be available on the day you want them. Don’t be surprised if companies charge more for weekends or end-of-the-month datesthese are premium times, and most companies make up for it by offering discounts at other times of the month. If you have no experience with movers, looking at the yellow pages can be an intimidating endeavor. A better option is to check with relatives or friends that have moved recently, and ask them who they recommend. Your local Better Business Bureau (BB) can also inform you about any complaints or disputes that have been directed toward the company. Finally, you can also ask the movers themselves for references. An important consideration to avoid complaints on both sides is to find out any unusual details at your moving destination. For example, will the moving truck be allowed into your new neighborhood, or, if moving to a high-rise, will you need to reserve an elevator? If the moving company is not informed, they’ll likely charge you extra if such problems arise. When you have at least three companies you’d feel comfortable hiring, ask them to come for an in-home assessment. This will ensure that the company is legitimate, and is also the only way to get an accurate moving estimate. After a number of such assessments, you’ll be able to make a more informed decision on which mover is right for you.

We won’t sugarcoat itany move is going to have some hassles associated with it. However, picking the right mover and getting help from friends can help alleviate the stress. Another way to make your move go as smoothly as possible is to pack the correct way. If you don’t want to end up with broken or missing pieces when you get to your destination, follow these tips.

Have enough boxes. This will keep you from over-stuffing containers or scrambling at the last minute to squeeze everything in. A good place to find boxes (for free) is at superstores like Wal-mart, which will let you select boxes during their stocking hours (usually between 11 pm and 1 am).

Record everything. Packing and unpacking is much easier when you know where to find everything. In a notebook, make a numbered list corresponding to your number of boxes, and record what’s in each one. Make sure your boxes are numbered as well, and that you’re specific when labeling them.

Use your wardrobe boxesintelligently. Wardrobe boxes are taller boxes provided by the moving company themselves. Their height makes them perfect for storing large but lightweight items like blankets, pillows, and clothes. Avoid using them for heavy objects, however.

Keep electronic equipment in its original box. Of course, this assumes you kept the original box in the first place. These boxes will store the items most efficiently, and you can then store those boxes in a larger carton or bin.

Decide what doesn’t need to be packed. Especially if the moving distance is short, you don’t need to pack everything in a box. Consider whether your larger items, including mirrors, mattresses, and Monets (or other paintings) need to be packed.

While it may be a poor carpenter who blames his tools, it’s a smart mover who picks the best moving supplies. Moving boxes, tape, and other supplies must be able to hold up under pressure (literally) and the cheapest products will fall apart just when you need them most. If you’re looking to save money without sacrificing quality, an online company is your best bet. They’re able to offer great deals without having to pay for the price of maintaining a physical store.MovingDayBoxes.com is one of the most popular online suppliers. In addition to selling individual packs of boxes, tape, bubble wrap, packing paper, mattress covers, and blankets, the company offers all-inclusive moving kits. You can purchase these based on the number of rooms you need to move and save even more. Shipping is also free. Other popular moving supply sites are MoveOut.com and UBoxes.com.You can also buy moving supplies from actual moving companies. For example, U-Haul offers all of the basics along with unexpected but useful tools like hand trucks, forklift moving straps, work gloves, furniture slides, and more. You can also find towing equipment and accessories for transporting bikes, wheelchairs, and skis.A third option specifically for moving boxes is to get them for free. There are a number of ways to do this, from visiting Wal-Mart in the wee hours of the morning to looking at the listings on FreeCardboardBoxes.com, where users post their box needs and supplies. If you’re even thinking of moving in the near future, it could be useful to check the site now to see what people are offering and make sure you’re not boxed out from the boxes you need.

As you begin the packing process for your big move, you’ll probably come across an unnerving truth: you don’t want to keep half of the things you own. Unfortunately, not everything you want to trash can be removed by your local trash service. In that case, you’ll have a choice: either drive everything to a recycling/trash collection site yourself (hard) or call a junk removal service (easy). One of the most interestingand most affordableof the latter options is the company College Hunks Hauling Junk.As its name suggests, CHHJ sends strapping young lads out to your home to clear away anything you like. Based on the items, they’ll end up being recycled, donated to Goodwill or a similar center, or trashed and converted to energy at the Covanta Energy Corporation site in North Virginia. Pricing for the service is volume-based, according to how much truck space it takes up. The hunks will give a free all-inclusive price quote as part of a scheduled appointmentif the price works, they’ll start right away. Otherwise, they’ll leave with nary a peep. The service was started by Washington, D.C. college students Nick Friedman and Omar Soliman in 2002 as a neighborhood service, when the two borrowed Omar’s mother’s cargo van and began hauling junk in the local community. After winning the Leigh Rothschild Entrepreneurship Competition in 2004, the two had an extra 10,000 to invest in the business. They incorporated their idea and have since opened 32 other sites11 other company-owned sites and 21 franchise locations. If you still need motivation to call, consider this: a portion of CHHJ’s profits go to the college scholarship fund CollegeBound.
